I'm also celebrating 900 followers on my Facebook page with $10 TPT Gift certificate. Don't forget to stop by there and enter!

I'm lucky enough to live minutes away from the beach so summer time means weekends at the beach. Each year we spend the summer going to the beach. Every other weekend we head to the beach, get a hotel room or rent a condo and enjoy a weekend in the sun. We watch my niece and nephews play in the sand and in the water.

This is one of my favorite pictures my niece and nephews with their father. We went to the beach near Wilmington, NC when my dad came for a visit.

Here's another picture of me on the beach a few years ago when we went on a cruise to the Bahamas. Those beaches are beautiful and crystal clear!

I highly recommend going on a cruise, especially a Carnival Cruise since it has something for everyone (kiddies included!)

You Ought to Know About Wegivebooks.org

I'm so happy to be joining Buzzing with Mrs. McClain for another "You Ought to Know" Blog Hop. As you know (or may not know) I love educational websites! Today's post is about a website called We Give Books.org!

I was browsing the web one afternoon for online reading books for my students when I stumbled onto this free website.

There are over 200 books to choose from and includes fiction and nonfiction books as well as fairy tales and folklore. There are some well know books like the "Llama Llama" books and many, many life cycle books.

You can click on a book to "Read Now" or click on "More Info" to learn more about the book.

If you click on "More Info", you get information about the book and the author. It will also display the number of times to book has been read and other books by the same author.

When you click on "Read Now", you will can read the book. It is fully automated and can be read on a full screen.

You can even read on a full screen (without the logo at the top), which is perfect for reading as a class or for the reading center.

You do have to log in to read all of the books, but it's free. Some books can be read without a log in. Afterwards, you have numerous books at your disposal.

Book can by filtered by age, genre, and author. It can also be sorted by "Most Recent", "Alphabetical", "Most Read", and "Shuffle" (or randomization). You can even search for books if you need too.

Teacher Appreciation Week - Day 5

Happy Teacher Appreciation week! Every day this week, I will have a new mini game that will be a freebie for the entire week. You can pick it up in my TPT store. In addition, I will giving away a game of your choice from my TPT Store.

Here's your last freebie of the week:
Reading Comprehension - Little Red Riding Hood!

Reading comprehension! Something I have yet to tackle, but I think it's about time to start! What better place to start than with fairy tales? Let's start with Little Red Riding Hood.

In this mini game, students will answer questions about the story "Little Red Riding Hood". There are 10 questions in all.

Some questions have one answer while other questions have multiple answers. Each questions and its answers are animated.

I included story element questions as well (setting, characters, author's message, etc). Because there are so many different version of  "Little Red Riding Hood", this game is editable so you can adjust your answers to fit the version you're reading to your students. I've read one version that has a huntsman instead of woodsman. I read another version where after the wolf ate little Red Riding Hood, the woodsman used scissors to cut her and her grandmother out of the wolf's stomach.

The last question I left without an answer because there are so many answers  a student could give. If you like to add an answer, simply copy  an answer and the answer button from a previous slide and paste it to the bottom of the slide. Don't forget to change the answer.

This game will be great for guided reading groups. Don't forget to leave some feedback. I plan to make this game part of a Reading Comprehension: Fairy Tale Bundle on sale now.

Don't forget to enter to win a free game of your choice from my TPT Store on Facebook. Enjoy your weekend and Happy Mother's Day. You deserve it!

Common and Proper Nouns!

Students are given a word. Each word is in ALL CAPS so it will be a litter harder to determine if it is common or proper.

Teacher Appreciation Week - Day 1

Teacher Appreciation week! Every day this week, I will have a new mini game that will be a freebie for the entire week. You can pick it up in my TPT store.  In addition, I will giving away a game of your choice from my TPT Store.

Here's your first freebie of the week: Rhyming Words.

Some of you requested rhyming words as a game. In this mini game, students must create rhyming words from a given picture. There are 10 questions in all.

This game is perfect for circle time or as a quick review. No scoreboard is included so individuals can practice without any pressure.

Students are given a image and they must come up with words that rhyme with it. I have given you 3 possible answers, but some have many you can come up with (like -un words).

I also included a hint in case your students don't know what an image is. For example, Question 8 is a coat, but some would say "jacket" instead. The hint will reveal what the image is in writing.
